Let's get back to the series theme "reduced color zone". Mostly monochrome with a few accent colors on an alien landscape. I will stop counting the colors and providing other obvious descriptions. Just enjoy.

I am writing this text a couple of weeks after creating the image (and a week before I will publish it). Looking at the image today, I do not think this belongs in the zone collection, as I did when I created it. The various zone series are meant to evoke a kind of alien landscape (or alien city, space scene, microcosm, junkyard). I do not get that feeling here. I still like it, after all I did not discard it. I am just no longer sure it belongs in this particular collection.

But then, I am also too lazy to figure out where it does fit, so I am dropping it in here now.

Here there are two competing colors (in addition to the grays). This one was designed from the start for two colors. The colors are not just painted on top of a monochrome picture. However, one can imagine other pairs of colors that would work equally well here.

The next two also have one color in addition to the shades of gray. The color is less bright, and it feels more like an integral part of the final product and not an after thought.

Here there are two colors, again the colors seem to be gratuitously added to a finished gray scale image. In truth that was the design process in this case. I completed a rough pass in gray scale. Then made a few test cases overlaying different colors. Then from those I choose the accent color for the final image.

Yesterday I said that the various "Zone" series all have similar shapes. They differ my density of detail and color selection. Over the last six months those zone shapes have evolved. They includes a lot more than was in the original vision. That is OK, in fact I find this evolution fascinating.

OK, time for something new. Here is the first of a set called "Reduced Color Zone". "Zone" because the underlying shapes are similar to the shapes in the other zone series. "Reduced Colors" because most of the canvas is black, white and shades of gray. There may be one, two or several additional colors, but the "rule" is that shades of gray occupy most of the display.
