Mish Mash Rush #14

More blurry water damage in the center.

Mish Mash Rush #13

Curves and teardrops competing with the straight line segments.

Mish Mash Rush #12

Thicker lines with blurred center.

Mish Mash Rush #11

Thinner lines.

Mish Mash Rush #10

I mentioned a while back (Mish Mash Rush #7) that I am pressed for time. So I am skipping the words that go with this picture. Supply your own if you are so inclined.

Mish Mash Rush #9

This next group features a very sparse blue/orange battle with mostly connected short line segments

Mish Mash Rush #8

Smoothly changing spectrum colors. Orthogonal lines with a few gentle curves sprinkled in.

Mish Mash Rush #7

Here is another orange / blue themed work. Sparser, with larger pieces.

This one and the previous Mish Mash Rush #6 could easily be the basis for a stand-alone series. I may do that someday, with these and with other mini-sets in this series.

I typically work about a week ahead of when I publish. I build up a queue and the blog software publishes the next post at midnight each day. I am writing this seven days before you read it.

I am going to be busy for the next month, and it is unlikely that I will have time to add artwork to the blog. I can be obsessive about keeping the blog flowing. (I have had long dry spells in the past.) I am in a rush to get a month's worth of posts queued up in a couple of days. Hence the "Rush" part of the series name. Fortunately the artwork already exists, I only need to write these words and get the words and art moved to the web site.

Mish Mash Rush #6

This one switches to an orange / blue dominant palette.

The left-right flow is still present, as with the previous three (starting with Mish Mash Rush #3). But it is more sparse, a lot of the white background is showing. The pieces are larger, and have a more definite shape.

Mish Mash Rush #5

The experiments described in Mish Mash Rush #2 resulted in about a dozen sets of two to five images each. Each set has a distinct personality and was to become a theme for a new series. Instead of building separate series, I am going to publish all of them in this collection. Hence the "mish mash" in the title.

Mish Mash Rush #4

The experiments described in Mish Mash Rush #2 were largely mash-ups of previous work. I do not mean that finished images were modified or combined. Rather that various design aspects were isolated and then mixed together. That is part of the motivation for "mash" in the series name.

I am not going to go into the details about what design aspects or techniques are used right now. If you have been following this block you may recognize some similarities to previous work.

Mish Mash Rush #3

The next three images share a common palette and have a top-down or left-right flow.

Mish Mash Rush #2

Back in March I started a series called Experiment 2023.1, and then followed that with Experiment 2023.2. As the name implies, I was experimenting with new techniques, rather than building a themed set.

Those experiments generated a few loosely related collections. While I posted those series, the experiments continued behind the scenes. This series consists of my favorites from those background experiments.

Mish Mash Rush #1

This new series picks up near where the previous series left off. I have been busy with other things and I did not realize that the blog had gone dry. I am trying to catch up now.

Curve Textures #21

Curve Textures #20

Here are a couple of simple geometric abstractions.

Ironically, I started this series with the intention to create interesting textures, based on simple curves, that I could apply as a background to large flat areas in an image like this.

As the series developed, the textures became less curvy and more jagged and became the foreground focal point.

Now here, the texture is minimal, just a little ridge between color regions.

Curve Textures #16

I like this "painting on ridges" technique. It works best with a reduced palette, or a low density underlying texture.
